Canada’s surface is covered by water, various types of vegetation, rocks, ice and built-up areas. Natural Resources Canada produces land cover maps for the entire Canadian landmass using satellite images. A better knowledge of Canada’s land cover enables us to:

Assessing changes between 2010 and 2020

Using data cube technology, changes in Canada’s land cover for different time periods can be displayed directly in a web browser. Move the time slider in the map below to explore the changes in land cover between 2010 (left) and 2020 (right).

Use the interactive map

Use the An icon of the plus sign. and An icon of the plus sign. buttons to zoom in or zoom out.

Click on the An icon of the plus sign. button to see the map content on the full page.

Use the An icon of the plus sign. button to view available layers. Select the An icon of the plus sign. checkbox for a layer to hide or display it.

Click and drag the bar in the middle to see the changes.

The An icon of the plus sign. button in the top left will take you to the main menu.
